A breakout star from the Disney+ hit Moving is in hot demand, while a pair of beloved K-dramas are set to spawn spin-offs due out hit our screens in 2024, in the latest round of drama casting items out of Korea.

1. Hospital Playlist spin-off

Moving’s Go Yoon-jung is set to star in Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday (literal title), a coming spin-off from the hit medical drama series Hospital Playlist, which aired its second season last year.
Previously known for Sweet Home and Alchemy of Souls, Go has just hit the big time as one of the faces of Disney+ superhero series Moving, the streaming platform’s most successful Korean drama to date.

Go will play a first-year obstetrics and gynaecology resident at the Jongro branch of Yulje Medical Centre. Lee Woo-jung and Shin Won-ho, the writer and director of the Reply and Hospital Playlist series, will reunite for the spin-off.

Also joining the cast of the series will be Shin Shi-ah, who made her debut last year playing the lead role in film sequel The Witch: Part 2. The Other One. Shin will also play a first-year resident.

Employing a similar format as the flagship series, the spin-off show is slated to air in the first half of next year.

2. Can This Love Be Interpreted?

Go Yoon-jung is also being courted to star in Can This Love Be Interpreted?, the new project from the Hong sisters, who worked with Go on Alchemy of Souls. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha star Kim Seon-ho has also received an offer to appear in the drama.

The series will follow the relationship between a top star and an interpreter who navigate the upper echelons of the entertainment world but, despite the professional nature of their arrangement, struggle to communicate on a personal level.

Following some brief downtime in the wake of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Kim returned to screens this summer in the action noir film The Childe.
Despite the pedigree of the Hong sisters, whose previous hits also include My Roommate Is a Gumiho and Hotel Del Luna, Can This Love Be Interpreted? has been in the midst of a long casting process. Previously, both Han So-hee and Son Suk-ku were approached but ultimately turned down offers to lead the series.

3. Good or Bad Dong-jae

Also being prepped is a spin-off of the hit drama Stranger. Lee Joon-hyuk, who recently played the villain in The Outlaws: No Way Out, is confirmed to lead the tvN series Good or Bad Dong-jae.

Lee will reprise his role as Seo Dong-jae, a prosecutor who has an intuitive sense of justice and a proclivity for opportunism.

Following on directly from the events of the second season of Stranger, Good or Bad Dong-jae will catch up with the prosecutor as his reputation lies in ruins. In what may be a make-or-break case for this future, Dong-jae tackles a new murder investigation.

Recently seen in Secret Royal Inspector & Joy and Our Beloved Summer, Lee will next be seen opposite Nam Joo-hyuk in the Disney+ series Vigilante, which will have its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival next month.
Stranger, starring Cho Seung-woo and Bae Doona, debuted to critical and commercial acclaim in 2017. A second season aired in 2020. Series creator Lee Soo-yeon will also return.

4. I Openly Dream of Cinderella

Taxi Driver actress Pyo Ye-jin and Lee Jun-young, the former U-Kiss K-pop band member who recently appeared in May I Help You, have been confirmed to star in the coming series I Openly Dream of Cinderella.

This romantic comedy will depict the messy relationship between a woman who wants to escape from her dire financial straits, like Cinderella, and a knight in shining armour who doesn’t believe in love.

The creator of the show is Baek Mi-kyung, who previously penned hit series such as Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and Mine.

Lee is set to play Moon Cha-min, arrogant heir to a chaebol (Korean family-run corporation) and social club CEO who has everything going for him except for his bad manners. Cha-min holds a dim view of people with Cinderella-like fantasies, but that’s just who Pyo’s character Shin Jae-rim is.
